Civil counters will offer some appointments as paired shorter shifts.
Shorter adjoining shifts will be tested for posts that remained vacant under a single long counter session.
The trial runs from 3 June to 26 July 2140. Each pair includes paid handover and a named person responsible for unresolved enquiries. An applicant may accept one shift without finding someone to cover the other.
The desk seeks people whose availability does not fit the existing session, including those with household care or other regular work. Record checks remain unchanged. The review will consider service continuity as well as how many posts are filled.
